In the office towers of Barbaros and Mustafa Kemal Mahallesi, the server room and UPS boards are sensitive loads. Large numbers of switch-mode power supplies generate third and ninth order harmonics, which circulate a neutral current exceeding the phase current. Where the neutral is left the same size as the phases the conductor overheats and more than three volts is measured between neutral and earth.

Our crew measures total harmonic distortion with a harmonic analyser, doubles the neutral cross-section relative to the phases and recommends a harmonic filter where required. A dedicated earth busbar is run to the rack circuits, the UPS bypass switch tested, and a Type 1+2 surge arrester fitted in the board to protect against utility switching.

Smart switches and relay modules have become widespread in the newer flats of Küçükbakkalköy and İçerenköy. In older Turkish wiring only the live and the lamp return were pulled to the switch box, with no neutral. When a neutral-requiring smart switch is fitted into such a box, LED lamps glow faintly or flicker while switched off because of ghost current.

The correct solution is pulling a neutral conductor to the switch box from the nearest junction box; a bypass capacitor is a temporary patch and does not resolve dimmer incompatibility. Alternatively the relay module is placed at the luminaire end. All smart modules are used with their original drivers and a Type 2 arrester added to the lighting circuit.

Demand for electric vehicle charging in the covered car parks of Ferhatpaşa and Esatpaşa complexes is rising quickly. A charger draws full load continuously for hours and can never be connected to the existing car park lighting circuit. Installation with inadequate cross-section and protection causes persistent cable heating and voltage drop on the building riser.

Before installation the existing load at the building main device is measured and the remaining capacity calculated. The charger gets a dedicated NYY cable from the board, 4 or 6 mm² according to charge power, a C32 or C40 breaker and a 30 mA Type B residual current device capable of detecting DC components. Earth resistance is measured and documented.

In the residence-to-office conversions of Yenisahra and Örnek, numerous computers, printers, water boilers and servers have been added on top of wiring designed for domestic use. Daisy-chained extension blocks under desks saturate a single circuit, socket boxes heat up and the residual current device trips randomly through the day. Enlarging the fuse here leaves the cable unprotected and increases fire risk.

After measurement the installation is re-divided for office use: workstation sockets, the kitchen and boiler group, and the server and network equipment each get their own circuit and their own residual current device. Daisy-chained extension blocks are removed and enough fixed outlets installed on the wall or in trunking.

In the mixed-use towers of Ataşehir, night work is subject to building management permission and quiet-hours rules. Our technician first confirms the floor plan and riser route with the building's technical officer, then locates the fault using board measurements and a cable tracer without any drilling. Lift, fire detection and generator circuits are never isolated without notice under any circumstances.

Once the faulty leg is isolated, critical loads such as servers, security cameras and lighting are restored first. Noisy chasing and breaking work is scheduled for the daytime slot set by the building management, and every action taken is recorded with its measured values on a written service form.

In the garden complexes of Kayışdağı and Aşık Veysel, pathway luminaires and garden sockets are fed underground. Over the years the cable sheath is damaged by root pressure or a spade strike; after rain the soil moisture raises leakage current and the entire exterior lighting device trips. Residents are left walking dark paths at night with a real risk of falls.

The leakage point is located to within a metre using a cable fault locator and insulation testing, so the whole route need not be excavated. The damaged section is repaired with a resin-filled underground joint box, or that run renewed in underground grade NYY cable. The exterior lighting circuit is given its own 30 mA device and luminaires replaced with IP65 rated fittings.

Our service vans stock only TSE and VDE certified Schneider Acti9, Siemens 5SY, ABB and Legrand miniature breakers. Copper-clad aluminium conductors carry roughly sixty percent higher resistance than solid copper and glow red inside the conduit under oven, water heater or air-conditioning loads, so they are never installed. Cross-sections are calculated from appliance nameplate power, run length and permitted voltage drop. Oven and hob circuits start at 3x4 mm², air-conditioning and water heater circuits at 3x2.5 mm², stepping up one size as the run lengthens.

Every junction is closed with fire-retardant Wago 221 lever terminals; taped or twisted splices are refused because they loosen over time and generate contact resistance heating. On completion the circuit is measured under dynamic load, the residual current device trip time is verified with a dedicated tester, and a signed service report plus the official 1 year workmanship guarantee is handed over.

Taping the handle of a repeatedly tripping breaker or winding heavy copper wire onto a ceramic fuse completely disables the circuit's thermal and magnetic protection. Overcurrent is no longer interrupted, the conductor glows inside its conduit and an arcing fire starts behind the plaster. A tripping device always signals a genuine overload or insulation fault; the lever never falls on its own.

The correct remedy is finding the fault, not upsizing the device: line current is measured with a True-RMS clamp meter, insulation resistance with a megohmmeter, the overloaded branch is split onto a dedicated circuit and the protective device is rated to match the conductor cross-section. If cross-section and breaker rating do not match, the protection guards the appliance rather than the cable; fitting anything above a C16 on a 1.5 mm² run or above a C20 on 2.5 mm² leaves the cable unprotected. For that reason the existing conductor size is physically measured on every visit and the breaker rating set from that measurement.

A burning odour from the board was reported on an office floor in Barbaros and our crew arrived in twenty-seven minutes. Thermal imaging read the phase conductors at sixty degrees while the neutral measured ninety-four, the classic signature of harmonic loading. Harmonic analysis showed third order content at thirty-one percent and a neutral current one and a half times that of the most loaded phase. The neutral was upgraded to twice the phase cross-section, melted neutral terminals renewed, a dedicated earth busbar run to the rack circuits and a Type 1+2 surge arrester fitted in the board. The closing thermal sweep showed the neutral down to forty-eight degrees.

The brand and model of switchgear fitted, all measured values and the labour charge were written onto a signed service report and handed to the customer. Parts and labour are covered by the official 1 year guarantee.

At a Ferhatpaşa complex, the cable of an electric vehicle charger installed in the covered car park was reported too hot to hold during charging. Arriving in twenty-six minutes, our crew found the unit fed from the car park lighting circuit in 2.5 mm² cable and measured the cable at seventy-two degrees while drawing thirty-two amperes. Protection consisted only of a Type AC device, which cannot detect the charger's DC component. The lighting-circuit connection was removed entirely, an unbroken 5x6 mm² NYY cable pulled from the main board to the car park, and a C40 breaker with a 30 mA Type B residual current device installed. Earth resistance was measured at 1.8 Ohm and reported.

After completion the residual current device trip time was measured with an external tester, the board swept thermally, and the system handed over running under dynamic load in front of the customer.
