Someone searching for an electrician in Fatih is rarely looking at a new housing-estate board. They are looking at a flat with thick plaster and a tired line. In the timber and masonry houses inside the old walls, and in the 1950-1970 blocks of Fındıkzade, Çapa, Kocamustafapaşa and Aksaray, cloth-insulated cable and two-wire NYA sockets are still in the walls. An earth conductor was never pulled. If the socket cover is warm, the box behind the television is blackened, or the stair breaker trips after the evening call to prayer, the fault is not a brand name. It is a loose terminal and a shop load piled onto the same phase. The sealed meter belongs to BEDAŞ. The riser, the boxes and the flat board after the meter are our work. No minute is promised in Fatih. A burning smell, arcing or a shock is moved to the front of the same day. A time that cannot be held in bridge traffic is not quoted.

Burnt sockets, cloth cable and two-wire wiring in the old city and the early blocks

Rewirable fuses and a blackened terminal on an old flat board

Why the television socket and the shop socket carbonise in the same box

In Fatih the ground floor is often wholesale, a tailor or a restaurant, and the floors above are homes. Because the 1970s riser was single-phase and thin, the shop's iron, cooler and window lighting were added onto the flat's socket circuit. In the evening, when both the shop and the flat load up, the terminal heats. A hot screw loosens, a loose screw arcs, and the arc carbonises the Bakelite. If the television is plugged into the socket above that box, the screen goes dark, the cover yellows, and the call comes in as 'the socket burnt'. The first job is not a new cover. The circuit is made dead, the box is opened, the carbonised NYA tail is cut back, and the remaining copper is read under load with a True-RMS clamp.

A two-wire circuit has no earth. Washing-machine bodies in these flats often shock, because the chassis was bonded to a water pipe or not bonded at all. A water pipe is not an earth. If there is a shock, the plug comes out, and if there is no 30 mA Type A residual-current device the board moves to the front of the job. Where cloth insulation crumbles in the fingers, that circuit is taken into halogen-free surface trunking. The wall is not chased just to break historic plaster. Cameras and the internet are not tied onto that old pair. The shop recorder and the Cat6 run go in a separate trunk, away from the socket circuit. The RJ45 ends are proved with a cable tester. They are not left because 'the picture comes up'.

Moving a rewirable stair board onto a DIN rail

Rewirable fuse boards are still found on Fatih stairs. Each time a fuse blows, a thicker wire is fitted, the wire heats, and the board blackens. That is not a repair. It is preparation for a fire. On the changeover, the room each fuse feeds is written down first. Then branch insulation is read with a 500 V megohmmeter. A line under one megaohm is not connected to the new breaker until it is renewed, because the new breaker would feed rotten insulation, not a sound circuit, and it would trip again. The board moves into a flame-retardant modular enclosure. A main breaker with a breaking capacity matched to the board, a 30 mA Type A residual-current device and, where it is needed, a Type 2 surge arrester go on the intake. The cooker, the washer and the air conditioner are not left on the same 16 amp way.

The riser belongs to the building. Carbon inside a flat's cover is a sign that the riser terminal is loose as well. That terminal is not limited to the flat owner. A written note is left with the manager: which floor, which phase, how many amperes were read. We do not break the meter seal. If the seal is already broken, or the meter side is hot, the report goes to BEDAŞ and the board after the meter stays with us. The 2026 bands are labour excluding materials and they move on site: fault finding 750-1,500 TL, a breaker or residual-current device 1,250-3,200 TL, a socket or light fitting 650-2,800 TL, an air-conditioning circuit 2,400-5,500 TL, a flat board 6,500-16,000 TL. The survey fee comes off the job if the repair is accepted. The binding figure is written after measurement and before work starts. Workmanship is guaranteed for one year.

Fatih riser neutral, a half-lit flat and the shop window

True-RMS clamp meter reading 12.47 A AC inside a live board

When the neutral loosens the lamp flares and the socket is blamed

On the old-city risers the neutral bar is shared and the screw is small. When the Aksaray windows light up in the evening that neutral heats, contact resistance rises, and flat lamps suddenly flare or die. The caller blames the socket. The reading is written at the flat intake: phase-to-neutral, phase-to-earth, neutral-to-earth. When the neutral opens, phase-to-neutral climbs above 180 volts and the fridge and television supplies are at risk. Plugs come out. The riser screw is chosen with the manager, because the line is the building's common property. The side before the BEDAŞ seal is a separate line on the paper. The side after the seal, the phase and neutral entering the flat, is ours to tighten. The same paper records which floor's phase drew how many amperes, so the neighbouring flat does not see the same flare the next day.

If this building and the next are dark and the meter is cold, the report belongs to the distribution company. If one flat has a live living room and a dead bedroom, one phase of the riser or one pole of the main breaker has gone. A pole whose handle is up and whose output is dead is common here, because the body has stayed warm for years. The ampere rating is not increased. If the conductor is 1.5 mm² it does not go above 16 amperes. If the section is short, the cable changes. On the same visit the bell transformer is read. If the body is hot, the bell circuit leaves the socket circuit so the coil does not feed socket carbon at night. The entry phone gets its own thin pair, and a camera supply is not piled onto that pair. A Fatih call is written in the appointment book. A burning smell or a shock is moved forward the same day. A minute figure for the bridge is not quoted. The technician states any tariff difference on the phone before setting off.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

What does a Fatih electrician look at when a socket has burnt?

Not the cover. The NYA tail inside the box, the loose screw, and the ground-floor shop sharing the circuit. The carbonised tail is cut back, the load is measured with a True-RMS clamp, and if the cloth insulation has crumbled the circuit goes into halogen-free trunking.

Why does the residual-current device trip at night in Fatih?

On an old circuit the insulation is low, and a damp wall leak crosses the threshold together with the evening load. The device is not bridged. The circuits are separated with a megohmmeter, and a 30 mA Type A unit goes back only onto a sound branch.

Are cameras and internet cable tied to the old socket in Fatih?

No. The recorder and the Cat6 run go in a separate trunk, away from the socket circuit. The ends are proved with a cable tester. The old two-wire circuit is used neither to feed a camera nor as data.

Who looks at a meter fault in Fatih?

The sealed meter and the breaker ahead of it are a BEDAŞ report. We do not open the seal. A loose riser after the meter, the flat board and the sockets are our measurement.

How are Fatih electrician prices for 2026 written?

The published band is labour, excluding materials. Finding a fault is 750-1,500 TL, a device or breaker 1,250-3,200 TL, a socket 650-2,800 TL, a board 6,500-16,000 TL. The firm figure is written after measurement. A promised minute is not inside that figure.

How is a night or Sunday call planned in Fatih?

Fatih on the European side is worked by appointment. A burning smell, arcing or a shock is moved ahead the same day; no minute is promised, because a time that cannot be held in bridge traffic helps nobody. A night or holiday difference is stated on the phone before departure.

What Can You See At Home? Fast Diagnosis By Symptom

There is a burning smell from a socket

Single socket being checked for burn marks

A loose screw connection has carbonised the terminal. Take that outlet out of service at once; the point is found with a thermal camera without opening the wall.

Diagnosis sits in the 750–1,500 TL band. The job line is written from the 2026 table after measurement.

Fix and price

The breaker keeps tripping

Main switch and breaker row

Branches are separated one by one at the board and the device reset; if it holds the fault is in the wiring, if not it is the device. The faulty leg is confirmed with a megohmmeter.

Diagnosis sits in the 750–1,500 TL band. The job line is written from the 2026 table after measurement.

Fix and price

The flat has lost power

Meter measuring voltage

If the building is dark, the record belongs to 186. If only the flat is dark, the fault is after the meter: one phase is missing or the neutral has broken. On neutral loss one phase climbs above 250 volts and another falls to 180.

Diagnosis sits in the 750–1,500 TL band. The job line is written from the 2026 table after measurement.

Fix and price

The breaker trips when the AC or oven starts

Breaker dedicated to an appliance circuit

Inrush exceeds the existing circuit. The fix is not a bigger breaker but a dedicated run from the board with a motor characteristic device.

Diagnosis sits in the 750–1,500 TL band. The job line is written from the 2026 table after measurement.

Fix and price

A chandelier needs fitting

Chandelier on the ceiling

The chandelier is fixed to the existing box and a load-rated hook. If the hook is not anchored in the slab, it is not hung. Live, neutral and earth are confirmed separately; the body is never put on phase.

Diagnosis sits in the 750–1,500 TL band. The job line is written from the 2026 table after measurement.

Fix and price

I get a shock from the sink or washing machine

Washing machine socket connection

There is no protective earth and the neutral is bridged to the earth terminal in the socket. This is a lethal risk; stop using the appliance immediately.

Diagnosis sits in the 750–1,500 TL band. The job line is written from the 2026 table after measurement.

How Our Field Team Works A Call

On Fatih call-outs the team follows the sequence below. No arrival minute is promised. The technician's name is given on the phone before anyone sets off.

  1. 01
    Symptom
The residual current device trips again the instant it is reset
    Measurement
Branches are separated one by one at the board and each leg measured with a 500 V megohmmeter. Insulation resistance below 1 Megaohm shows that run's insulation is no longer doing its job.
    Intervention
The faulty leg is isolated and the refrigerator, boiler and lighting restored within the first ten minutes. If damp is the cause the junction box is dried and encapsulated in dielectric gel; if the insulation is charred the run is renewed back to the board.
  2. 02
    Symptom
A burning smell from a socket with a deformed face plate
    Measurement
A FLIR thermal sweep is taken under load; where a loose screw connection has carbonised the terminal, that point reads between 160 and 200 degrees and is found without opening the wall.
    Intervention
Blackened conductor ends are cut back to clean copper, the back-box replaced and the joint closed with a Wago 221 lever terminal. Every screw connection is tightened with a calibrated screwdriver to between 2.5 and 3.5 Nm.
  3. 03
    Symptom
Half the flat has no power while the other half works
    Measurement
Voltage is read phase by phase downstream of the meter. On neutral loss one phase measures above 250 volts and another around 180; that pattern burns appliance boards the same night.
    Intervention
The main neutral terminals are opened, oxidised surfaces cleaned with dielectric solvent and torqued to specification. An over/undervoltage protection relay is added so appliances survive the next neutral loss.

A Free Five-Point Board Safety Check On Every Call-Out

Whatever we are called out for, before leaving we measure your board at five points and leave the result in writing. It is the cheapest way to see a developing fault before it stops anything.

01

All breaker and terminal temperatures under load with a FLIR thermal imager; every point above seventy degrees is recorded.

02

The 30 mA residual current device trip time measured in milliseconds with a dedicated tester.

03

Voltage between neutral and earth; more than a few volts indicates a loose neutral or a bootleg ground.

04

Earth resistance read with a digital earth tester and assessed against the 2 Ohm target.

05

Breaker ratings against conductor size; anything above a C16 on a 1.5 mm² run leaves the cable unprotected.

Fully stocked mobile vans: every vehicle carries Schneider and Siemens breakers, 30 mA Type A devices, surge arresters, solid copper cable drums and junction box sets, so most jobs finish on the same visit.
