The timber house on the Nizam and Maden slopes of Büyükada, the wooden house on the Heybeliada slope, the narrow street on Burgazada and the windward front on Kınalıada take the same salt. If the socket cover is warm, the box under the window is green and the screw head holds a white powder, the fault is not a brand of appliance. Salt damp eats the copper terminal, the screw loosens, the loose screw arcs, and the arc carbonises the Bakelite inside the timber. A millimetre remains between the carbon and the wood. The first job is not a new socket cover. The circuit is made dead, the cover screw comes off, the box is opened, and the carbonised conductor tail is cut back to sound copper. The remaining tail is read with a True-RMS clamp while the house load of that moment is still on. The reading is written: which room, which way, how many amperes. A timber rafter and historic cladding are not drilled to chase a channel. A circuit that has crumbled goes into halogen-free trunking, separated from the timber by an insulating base plate. A camera adapter and a phone charger are not piled back onto that carbonised pair. Piling them back brings the same arc on the next salty morning.

The garden socket and the pier lighting look like an extension of that timber circuit. They are not. Wet ground, the underside of the pier and the garden wall do not accept NYM. NYM is a dry indoor cable. The garden and the pier are NYY. A joint is not left taped inside the water. The joint sits in a gasketed box above the splash line. A joint that must be buried is a resin underground joint, not insulating tape. The indoor NYA tail stays only in the dry room. Jointing it onto the garden NYY pushes a thin single core into salt water. On Büyükada this drum does not arrive at the door in a passenger car. There are few or no cars on the island. The NYY drum, the ladder and the rod come off the ferry and walk from the pier to the house on a hand cart or on the island's permitted service vehicle. A call on Heybeliada, Burgazada or Kınalıada is the same ferry gate. The materials list is written to what fits that sailing, not to a mainland van. A forgotten clamp does not invent a second sailing. A second sailing is discussed only if the timetable has room, and not as a midnight crossing.

On the beach the rod drives easily and the job is not closed because it 'went in'. Sand gives up water quickly, the contact around the rod stays weak, and the resistance reads high. On a rocky slope the rod stops on stone at a shallow depth, and the same high figure arrives for another reason. Neither is passed as 'the rod is there'. Resistance is measured between the rod and the board earth bar and written on the paper. If one rod is high, a second rod is driven apart from the first and the two are bonded. If the rock will not take a rod, a bare copper tape is laid in a soil trench at the foot of the wall and its end comes to the bar. A water pipe is not made into an earth. In salt air the part that rots first is the rod clamp. If the clamp is rusty the conductor is cut, a new clamp is tightened, and the measurement is repeated. A high resistance does not mean the fuse will open on a body fault. The 30 mA device stays. The rod work does not replace the device, and the device does not replace the rod reading. Both readings are on the same paper.

A salt film is an insulator while it is dry and becomes a conductor when it dampens. The pier luminaire, the garden socket and the box in the timber wall carry that film. With the morning mist the 30 mA residual-current device trips, it may hold in the midday sun, and it trips again in the evening. The device is not bridged and it is not silenced by swapping in a higher-ampere unit. The house circuit is separated from the pier and garden circuit. The pier goes onto its own 30 mA Type A device. The inside of the wet box is dried, the green tail is cut, and the NYY is terminated again. The circuits are read one by one with a 500 V megohmmeter. A way under one megaohm is not connected behind the new device. The arrester is discussed only after that. A Type 2 surge arrester comes down to the earth bar on a short straight tail. A long curled earth leaves the arrester late. If the supply is small and the board is rotten, the enclosure changes first. If the earth reading is still high, the arrester is not written down as fitted. Type 2 is written onto the board the supply and the bar allow, and it is not forced onto a board they do not allow. A forced arrester becomes the second fault, after the salt, in a rotten enclosure.

The appointment is written on top of the ferry timetable. The sailing the technician boards, the return sailing and the pier name are on the paper. A midnight crossing to the island is not promised. If the last passenger ferry has left, the island gate is not treated as open that night. The job is taken onto the next suitable sailing. Nobody says on the phone that we are on the island within the hour, because that sentence is not on the timetable. A burning smell or a shock does not invent a night sailing that does not exist. What is said on the phone is a limit: the board cover is not touched with a bare hand, the plug of the burning socket is pulled, and if the switch can be turned the house is made dead. If there is flame the fire service is called as well. The ferry does not take that job's place. The technician does not quote a minute for a night sailing that is not there. If the material does not fit that sailing, the trip does not start with a missing clamp. The list is finished one sailing earlier. An unfinished list does not become a sentence on the island that we will bring it tomorrow, because tomorrow exists only with the timetable too.

On Büyükada there is no plan to nose a van up to the door. A passenger vehicle does not cross to the island, and a service vehicle does not enter every street. The duration of the job includes the walk between the pier and the house. That walk is not turned into a promised minute. The slope on Heybeliada, the narrow street on Burgazada and the windy pier on Kınalıada carry the same rule: the appointment is a sailing, and it is not a midnight crossing. The side before the AYEDAŞ seal is the distribution company's report. We do not open the seal. If the island is dark, the meter is cold and the neighbouring house is dark too, the report belongs to AYEDAŞ. If one house's board is warm and the neighbour is lit, the circuit after the meter is ours. On the same visit the pier box, the garden NYY tail and the house earth bar are read. The three are separate lines. Because one of them is wet, the house device is not bridged. If the pier is dark and the house is lit, the fault is not hunted on the house riser. It is hunted on the line of the pier device and the NYY joint box.

A new board is not screwed onto a timber wall on top of the old carbonised plate. The plate comes off, the wall side is separated with an insulating sheet, and a flame-retardant modular enclosure goes on. A Schneider or Siemens enclosure is better than a broken case whose cover will not close, because the island's salt enters an open cover within one winter. If the cover gasket does not close, the bar greens again. On the intake go a main breaker matched to the board's breaking capacity, a 30 mA Type A for the house and a separate 30 mA Type A for the pier. The cooker, the washer and the air conditioner are not left on the same 16 ampere way. If the conductor is 1.5 mm² it does not go above 16 amperes. If the section is short the cable changes, and the ampere label is not inflated. Even a short riser in an island house is tightened if it is loose. The tightened screw is written together with which conductor it was. An unwritten screw hides, on the next sailing, which tail was left.

The band written for 2026 is labour excluding materials, and on the island it moves after measurement. Fault finding is 750-1,500 TL, a breaker or residual-current device 1,250-3,200 TL, a socket or luminaire 650-2,800 TL, an air-conditioning circuit 2,400-5,500 TL, a board 6,500-16,000 TL. The metres of NYY are not invented by burying them inside that band. The metre is measured at the pier and the figure is written before work starts. The survey fee comes off the job if the repair is accepted. The binding figure is on the paper after measurement and before work. Workmanship is guaranteed for one year. That year does not contain a clause that shortens the ferry clock. A minute figure is not inside the price either. If salt eats the same clamp again within a winter, the repeat is judged against the guarantee record. A new midnight crossing is not made part of that judgment.
