Reading estimate 4,000–12,000 TRY

I do not clear an Omron Varispeed F7 OC code twice

OC means the current the drive gave the motor crossed its threshold. The threshold is a report, not the fault. On Istanbul lines I see it on pumps, fans and conveyors. The estimate 4,000–12,000 TRY is for the reading and the measurement, not a quote.

When OC appears, and when it does not

A frequency drive in an industrial panel, before an Omron OC measurement

At start, while running, while stopping

OC at start means the current the motor wants and the time the ramp allows do not agree. A locked load, a short ramp or motor data copied wrong off the nameplate drops the code in the first second. OC while running is another story: the load jumped, or a winding started leaking to earth.

If I see OV while stopping I do not call it OC. OV is energy returning to the bus during deceleration. I do not close the two in one sentence. A ground-fault code is not OC either. On a ground fault I disconnect the motor cable from the drive and measure insulation. Raising the current threshold does not silence any of these codes.

What I write next to the code on the phone

An emergency stop after the line halted, before the Omron drive code is read

One reset, then stop

If there is no smell, no smoke and no hot cable, and no jam you can see, I accept one reset. If the same OC returns, the finger comes off the button. Reset after reset runs the IGBT and the motor winding into the same fault again. I do not have a stopped Istanbul line restarted from the phone with 'try once more'.

I want a photo of the display, a photo of the motor nameplate, and whether the code came at start or while running. I do not want you opening the drive cover. The DC bus stays charged for a while after the supply is off. Touching that bus is not the job of this page. When I arrive I confirm the discharge, then I disconnect the cable.

On the panel I do not mix the three measurements

A plant distribution panel, before the drive output is disconnected

Cable, winding, ramp

I isolate the drive output on the motor side. Insulation between phases and from phase to earth is not measured while the motor is still tied to the drive. If insulation is low, OC is a result: a crushed cable or a leaking winding. If insulation is clean I turn the motor by hand, or with the coupling open. If it does not turn, the lock is mechanical, not electrical. The bearing, the impeller or the piece on the conveyor has to be free first.

I read the nameplate current next to the motor current written in the drive. A wrong ampere produces OC at start, and I do not replace the drive for that. I compare the ramp time with the time the load can actually start. A fan and a loaded conveyor are not the same second. I do not pull the current threshold up from the parameter screen. The threshold is the limit that protects the circuit. Raising it hides the code and heats the cable.

I count the same code as three causes on three lines

A plant panel where the same OC code is read for three different loads

Fan, pump, conveyor

On a roof fan, OC is usually a short ramp and a dirty blade. If the blade turns freely I lengthen the time. I do not change the drive. On a basement pump the same code can be sand in the impeller or a locked non-return valve. I clear the pump mechanically before I treat it as electrical. On a conveyor a jammed piece locks the shaft. I do not reset the drive before the belt has been turned by hand.

All three write OC on the screen. On all three my first job is to see a free shaft. On an Istanbul industrial estate these three loads can sit side by side in one panel. I do not multiply the page by district. The order of the measurement does not change between Pendik and the other side of the city. The only thing that changes is the road.

What gets written when the job closes

A drive cover closed after the Omron OC measurement

Code, measurement, part

I write the code, the moment it appeared, the insulation figure and the ramp. If the motor or the cable has to change, I have that approved separately. The drive power board is discussed only when insulation and the mechanics are clean. I do not change a board because of a smell. The 4,000–12,000 TRY band is this reading. Material and a winding job sit outside the band.

The same code comes from a dirty fan, a pump impeller or a locked belt. I do not close all three by changing the drive. The board is discussed only when the shaft is free, insulation is clean and the nameplate current is right. That order does not change in Istanbul.

I do not lock a price on the phone. The range I give is an estimate drawn from similar jobs. The binding figure is written after I have seen and measured the fault, before I start. Extra work does not begin without your approval. Payment is on completion, invoiced, in Turkish lira. Nights and public holidays are a separate rate, and I say so before I leave. We work as an approved technician network. I give you the arrival window for your district on the call, and a live location link is shared once the technician sets off.

Questions I hear on this fault

Questions I hear on this fault

Can OC be cleared once?

Once, if there is no smell and no hot cable. If the same code returns, leave it. I give the second reset at the panel, not you from the screen.

Should I open the drive cover?

No. The DC bus stays charged for a while even after the supply is off. I open the cover after I confirm the discharge.

If we raise the current limit, does the code go?

It looks gone. The fault stays. Raising the limit leaves the cable and the winding unprotected. I do not do that.

Are OC and OV the same?

No. OC is current crossing the threshold. OV is voltage returning to the bus while stopping. Their measurements are separate.

Does a ground fault also write OC?

No. A ground fault has its own code. I do not close that code before the motor cable is off the drive and insulation is measured.

Is the motor nameplate required?

Yes. If the nameplate current was written wrong into the drive, start produces OC. I do not touch a parameter before I see the plate.

Is a pump the same OC as a fan?

The code is the same. The load is not. A fan can start on a short ramp. A full pump or conveyor cannot. I read the time from the load.

If a bearing is locked, does the drive get replaced?

No. If the shaft does not turn, the mechanics are freed first. Feeding current into a locked shaft grows the OC. It does not repair the drive.

If the cable is crushed, what is measured?

After the drive is disconnected, insulation between phases and phase to earth. A low figure means the cable or the winding changes, not the drive.

Can you tell the IGBT from the smell?

No. Smell points. The decision comes from insulation and current. I do not change a board from a smell.

Is this page a wiring diagram?

No. I do not write wire colours or parameter numbers here. Half a diagram gets wired wrong. I read the terminal off the label.

Is a night fault different?

The rate is separate and I say it before I leave. The order of the measurement does not change. There is no second reset at night either.

What does the approved technician network mean?

Central dispatch takes the call and routes it to the on-call certified technician for your area. The technician who attends does the measurement; the job is not subcontracted. The arrival window is no fixed minutes depending on the district, and their name, vehicle plate and a live location link are shared on departure.

Is the price locked on the phone?

No. 4,000–12,000 TRY is the reading estimate. Material and a winding are written separately. The quote is set after the measurement and before work starts.

Which district do you cover?

Both sides of Istanbul. The district name does not change the page. The measurement is the same. Travel time changes with the district. The work does not.

Is a photo of the screen enough?

Enough to point, not enough to diagnose. I also need the nameplate and the moment the code appeared. I do not want a photo with the cover open.

Are a conveyor and a crane the same?

The code can look the same. The inertia is not. I separate a crane's OV while stopping from its OC at start. I do not bury both in one parameter.

Can a spare drive just be fitted?

Not before the parameters and the motor data move with it. A new drive with the wrong current can write the same OC on the first start.

Is this an intercom job?

No. OC is a drive code on an industrial panel. It is not written onto a door-phone circuit.

Do you give a measurement note?

If you want, I write the code, the insulation and the ramp shortly. It is a site note, not a laboratory certificate.
